 Mt. Lemmon Post Office

The drive up to Mt. Lemmon from the Tucson desert floor begins among cactus and paloverde, moves through juniper and pinon, reaches pine forests at about 7,000 feet and then peaks among fir and aspen. The 40-mile drive is wonderfully scenic. Stopping at the tiny hamlet of Summerhaven for a cup of coffee and a chocolate chip cookie is mandatory.

Forged by Sabino Creek on the south side of the catalina Mountains, this site is popular with the locals. Cars are prohibited but the 2.3-mile hike to Seven Falls from Bear Canyon is worth the strain and journey.
